Chase, Jr.The late Robert Webber was raised and educated in a strong Evangelical tradition. He maintains his love for the Evangelical movement within Christianity, but has combined that with a second love - liturgical worship of God as expressed in the Anglican/Episcopal tradition. The first part of the book is his own personal witness of how he came to appreciate and love liturgical worship. It also is his effort to explain to his Evangelical friends and colleagues his reasons for embracing the liturgical tradition, while not abandoning the best of Evangelicalism. The second part of the book contains the witness of other Evangelicals who have found a home worshipping in the Anglican/Episcopal tradition.I am an Episcopal Priest, thoroughly immersed in Anglican traditions of liturgical worship, theology and ecclesiology. I found the accounts in this book to give a fascinating insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the Evangelical movement, as well as the ways that Evangelicals can and do strengthen and deepen the liturgical traditions. This is a wonderful read for Evangelicals as well as for Anglicans, Lutherans and Roman Catholics for whom liturgical worship can be strengthened and deepened by the contributions of Evangelicals like Robert Webber.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.A terrific account of liturgical journeysBy Jacob A. DavisA wonderful account of what draws individuals from more evangelical traditions into more liturgical traditions, specifically Anglican. Webber's own reasoning is sound and eye-opening, while the account of his journey and the journeys of others in the following chapters will grab the hearts and minds of the reader. Webber (and Lester Ruth in this edition) isn't evangelizing Anglicanism, but explaining the draw to himself and others, and this allows the reader to really explore the tradition without feeling pressed to leave their tradition for another at the end. That transition occurred about 2 years ago. This is a good transitional book that helped me to understand my journey was not a solo.
