The art is fantastic- where Sorrentino's work on I, Vampire was wildly dreamy like a mad venom, the art here is sharper like a high tech trick arrow.VALUE: It's really, really short. If you haven't already started reading Lemire and Sorrentino's run on Green Arrow, I'd recommend you wait til the collected hardcover comes out.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful.Broken is a weak epilogue to an otherwise great runBy Travis TrombleyAs with Lemire's and Sorrentino's previous volumes, "Broken" is well drawn (with the exception of a few completely confusing panels and transitions) and action heavy. Whatever their relationship in terms of writing and illustration, the pair boasts a unique talent for showcasing brutal, kinetic set pieces. However, that stand-out feature from the previous volumes isn't enough to carry the lackluster narrative this time around. The shallow story here centers around Oliver's return to Seattle to confront the drastically underdeveloped Dragon. As a physical presence, Dragon is both intimidating and interesting, especially as a combatant, but Lemire relies too much on cheesy dialogue, a contrived backstory, and some manufactured "reputation" to generate an tone of fear, and a lack of consequences leaves these elements ultimately feeling empty. In three issues, the campaign is over before you get a chance to really care. In the previous volumes, Lemire excellently intertwined Oliver's character development with his ability to defeat his foe, making that fight narratively more meaningful; in this case, that work is limited to a throwaway and predictable line predicated on a flashback from an issue before. There's nothing to savor in the victory. The final issue of the volume, which takes place years after the Dragon saga, proved far more interesting than anything before it. Featuring a bearded Oliver, some classic Green Arrow "social warrior" stuff, the return of the Outsiders, and some cool counter-Cadmus conspiracy work, it was both the most intelligent and most interesting part of the volume.Lastly, I want to say that Lemire's Emiko has great potential for the series and the extended DC universe. In a world of Miles Morales and Kamala Khan (both Marvel, I know), the Damian Wayne-esque Emiko brings some seriously needed diversity potential to DC's roster. In the end, while I will still boast Lemire and Sorrentino's work on Green Arrow as some of the New 52's best, this final installment seemed only a weak epilogue to an otherwise outstanding run.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Fragments of stories. Still worth getting.By Gabriel O'HaraThis volume borders between passable and good and the sad thing is it's mostly due to its length. We get an origin story which we really don't need since we already had it in Vol. 5 and then we get a 3 issue story arc that is pretty "eh" to say the least. It introduces several D-list villains which get so little screen time that they never feel like a threat and relies on the villain "Dragon" as its final centerpiece fight. However, the fight, although well built up, is over in no time and Dragon falls short of what he promised he'd be. The last issue included in the volume is really good but goes nowhere since it's part of a bigger event. The saving grace of the volume would be Emiko, who's cheekiness and eagerness to fight is a great contrast to a troubled Oliver. Naomi and Fyf are great support characters and make the newly introduced Diggle seem really lackluster. This saddens me, knowing that they'll get cut by the next writing team. To summarize, I'd say this volume shows a team of Lemire and Sorrentino which is not as good as the one we had seen before, thus giving us a very unsatisfactory conclusion. However, seeing them work together one last time on the Emerald Archer is worth the money.See all 9 customer reviews... Green Arrow - Wikipedia Oliver"Ollie" Queen the Green Arrow.
