But he’s drawn to her like a moth to a flame.When he goes away one weekend to find an escape from his thoughts of his past life and of Dawn, he runs into her. And from that meeting he embarks on forming a friendship, one he doesn’t think he wants with her. But soon he realizes that she wants more and he doesn’t believe he can give that to anyone, especially Dawn. He feels like he is doomed to live a life of solitude.Dawn’s pas is just as heartbreaking. So much of what causes her to be cautious is similar to why Jason is who he is now. Dawn knows that if they are to more forward and explore what is clearly evident between them she must tell him of her past. He knows the time has come, he must do the same, he must tell someone about his past. Both of them have pasts that haunt them. I knew I’d have to go back and start again. I read it two times in a row to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Both times I was bawling.Jason broke my heart at the start, but slowly mended it. This was a gut-wrenching book that was full of emotions. I will be in a book hangover for a few days. But it was worth everything I went through to get to the end. To see if two broken souls could mend each other and become one.Lisa is an incredible story teller. I felt like I was right there with the characters, living what they were living. They were so real to me, I wanted to hug Jason. Lisa has quickly become a must read author for me.Anything inside of () is a quote or line from the book. Her portrayal of Jason Reynolds is the way I have noticed a lot of the veterans that I have known after coming home react.She did an amazing job of writing a story that was easy to get into, and her story brought out my emotions. It had my tears flowing from the beginning of the book. The heartbreak Jason and Dawn had experienced was more than any one person should ever have to endure. I knew Jason's history from the get-go but had to keep reading until my eyes were hurting to discover what Dawn's story was. Of all my guesses, it was certainly not what I had imagined. WOW! No spoiler alerts here. The book was written entirely from Jason's POV by a female author (Lisa Survillas). That's not easy, but Lisa rocked it! Is this a must read You betcha!
