Potent, robust, and critically important they join the attempt to stop an especially formidable assault in the heart of the nation's capital, Washington D.C. At this time, I suggest that it will definitely increase your interest and understanding of this book if you have read the first book in the series. It does stand on its own, but the enjoyment is dramatically multiplied when knowing what happened previously. Fantastic!Tory Grey is an incredibly intriguing and a tad beguiling lead character. As her long-ago history slowly unfolds, it is easy to sense that she and Dr. Riah Preston, medical examiner for Spokane, Washington, have some fascinating connections. It also becomes apparent that Tory is the catalyst for the current growing crisis in Washington DC. She is now working for the Library of Congress as a rare-books expert. She realizes something is seriously amiss when a very rare book that she owned and had dramatically hidden a long time ago is mailed to her at the library. Unusual for Tory, she makes a late night visit to the National Cathedral for an especially interesting service. She is greeted by the lay minister, but they have a bit of a prickly encounter. Although not an auspicious beginning, their meeting certainly sets things in motion. Fascinating!Naomi Rand has a rather atypical curriculum vitae. At the moment, she is a lay minister at the National Cathedral, but upon knowing her previous work record, one may very well stand up and take notice at such a dramatic change. Additionally, she has a twin brother who is a prominent and distinguished detective with the DC police force. They have a number of heated discussions and interactions over a whole range of issues. He has some grave misgivings about her current employment. Naomi loves and tolerates her brother. Curious, when she was an active vampire hunter, he was also not a notable fan as he had big issues with their style of justice. Naomi eventually reaches out to Colin Jamison, also an ex-vampire hunter but close and trusted friend. This connection brings the extraordinary team from Spokane, Washington onto the DC scene just prior to things really getting out of hand. Fantabulous! This third book in the series created a perspicacious blending of the Washington DC power group with the West Coast Spiritus Group which certainly seemed essential for the all hell breaks loose doings humming around our the lead characters. Loss and devastation was going down big time and it was indispensable to have the best of the best on the scene joining the battle. There were brief moments where new lovers and established lovers could express their passions and needs while drawing strength and crucial insight. Once again, I could not stop reading this book until I knew the total and complete outcome. That is why I hands down recommend this book and this series. Scintillating!NOTE: This book was provided by Bold Strokes Books for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Exciting Paranormal MysteryBy RLynneScarlet Revenge is another exciting page turner from Sheri Lewis Wohl. In it, she brings back some beloved characters from previous books, Adriana, Colin, Riah and Ivy, and introduces two new characters, Tory, and Naomi. Tory works at the Library of Congress, an expert on old books, Tory is also a vampire. When she receives, anonymously, an old medieval copy of the New Testament, she knows that she has been spotted by someone from her past.Naomi, a retired vampire hunter, is now a lay minister at the great National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. When the two women meet, there are definite sparks flying between them.Something is obviously rumbling in Washington, D.C. As the bodies killed by a vampire pile up, Wohl cleverly lays out the prejudice which exists between humans and paranormals, subtly showing the parallels which exists with some people, of the prejudice between the heterosexual and the homosexual communities. "Prejudice and hatred always existed, even if covered up by polite society."Wohl does a great job in character building with Tory and Naomi, as well as expanding on the already developed characters of Adriana, Colin, Riah and Ivy. She has a gentle hand with the Tory and Naomi love story, as well as the existing love stories of her other characters. Wohl tells her story from both the point of view of the vampire protagonist, and the point of view of the rest of the cast. And she tells it with a wry sense of humor: "Tory stepped away and studied her only living relative. Well, sort of living relative". This is a wonderful book for both lovers of mystery as well as lovers of stories about paranormals.8 of 11 people found the following review helpful.Way overpricedBy Lost in DenverSometimes it's difficult to do a review while keeping in mind that someone undoubtedly labored over a work that you just didn't like, so it is good to try and find at least one good thing to say. With Scarlet Revenge, the only good thing that I can say is that I didn't notice any major grammatical or editorial errors. And that's pretty much it. In every other way, this book just didn't work. I can't say that the characters were cookie-cutter, because that would indicate more depth and development than they had. The perspective was bouncing all over the place like a manic kangaroo. The two primary characters formed a relationships simply because they were in the same place and the same time and were single. There was zero chemistry between them, which wasn't surprising since there was almost no personality between the two of them either. They both spent a lot of time crying and complaining about how they didn't deserve to be happy though, all the while doing pretty much nothing to stop the villain who was rampaging through the city unchallenged. I mean, how could the characters be bother to take any actual action about a rampaging serial-killer and psychopath when they were busy lamenting about how mean he was, speculating about who he might be, and complaining that there was nothing that they could do. And the villain seemed to have the ability to do a billion things in just a few hours while the "good guys" barely had time to finish complaining about how helpless they felt. Of course they were helpless. They weren't doing anything. These were some of the least driven and least interesting protagonists that I've ever read about. There is nothing about this book that justifies the price-tag. I'd probably be considerably less annoyed if these was a free e-book that the author had just put out to test the literary waters, but $10! Definitely not worth it.See all 3 customer reviews...
