Throughout our lives he had shared everything about himself with all us kids, guiding us to never be quiters without ever saying that word. He never gave up on me; speaks lovingly about me in this book, as he does of David, Mary Jo and Jeffrey. I'm sure each of us can hear his voice speaking, as we read any given circumstance he wrote about. We will never see an America that my Dad saw as he grew up and recounted in this book. He gracefully weaves historical events into the fabric of our developing lives as a family.....and his foreign service work. Where were you when Kennedy got shot I was at a British boarding school in Eldoret, Kenya and didn't find out until the day after. Being the only American in that school, there wasn't a reaction that a pre-teen would have picked up on among her peers.This is an excellent read, although it does have it's dry spots when he's stuck in his foreign service frustrations, but there's no doubt my Dad was a conservative man, stood up for the little guy and rooted for the underdog. I miss him so much. This is a remarkable story of a remarkable man. In his own words and in his own unassuming way, Dr. Aaron details events in his life and times. His writing brings to life the trials and blessings of his adventurous journey from most humble beginnings to such notable achievements.I had the pleasure to know and love Dr. Aaron and his lovely wife Gladys in their later years. Though their lives had slowed down, their love and spirit always shined through.
