Believable, all-too-likely premise. Sow the wind of tolerance and political correctness and reap the whirlwind of ... well, you'll see.Excellent character development; narrative and dialog flow well, smoothly and naturally. Decent plotline, although no real surprises and there are several key plot points that you'll see coming.Military material and combat action well done as far as it goes, but it's very generic and non-equipment specific - the 'tanks', the 'artillery', the 'planes', 'helicopters', 'machine guns' and 'rifles'. That's all the detail that's provided.Apart from the Russian Crusaders (enhanced super soldiers; unclear if they're cyborgs or just bio-enhanced) there's no sign of almost ninety years worth of military technological advance. In less than ninety years technology advanced from wood-and-canvas biplanes to supersonic stealth aircraft, from Civil War black powder explosives to nuclear fission and fusion weapons, from unguided 'dumb' artillery shells to fire-and-forget, GPS directed, laser guided target seeking munitions. What, no battlefield particle-beam or directed energy weapons, no individual powered armor, self-directing autonomous war robots, or smart bulletsDitto the civilian side - where are the smart-phone implants, the self-driving cars, the nano-fab consumer goodsIt feels like the action takes place in the next couple of years, for the most part, and not 2105.Okay; rant over. It's a real good read, and I quite enjoyed it. I understand that this is primarily conjectural social fiction (and I completely agree with the author's perspective and the point he's making) but there does need to more sign of ninety years' worth of technological advance to lend verisimilitude to the world the author has drawn.I'd like to see another couple of books set in this universe.Try the sample, I think you'll like it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An Important Look at One Plausible FutureBy English ProfThis thoroughly entertaining narrative set a bit more than a hundred years in the future paints a world where the much ballyhooed Caliphate has finally come to pass. Europe has fallen; a divided United States sits on the sidelines; only battered Mother Russia continues to fight, along with her Scandinavian allies. The narrative is developed by focusing on one family living in the Caliphate, members of a Russian Spetsnaz unit, and finally a few Americans from the Northern United States. In this way, it tells a troubling story of unchecked immigration and subversion, statism run amok and a shattered Western world largely at the mercy of a misguided Jihad conducted by revisionist Islamic fundamentalists. Because of the multiple points of view, the narrative is well balanced. It is also well written and extremely timely. Should be mandatory reading for all those interested in possible outcomes of our present foreign policy (such as it is).0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.A good read just wish it was a bit longerBy Scott GreigA good read just wish it was a bit longer, shame it won't get published but as the author quite rightly states it's a death sentence these days to speak about Islam, while the same religion wages war against most of the world. Is this what future holds for your our next generation, again we can't see in to the future but we can look at the past and it doesn't take much imagination to see what the future holds in this current climate. The book has the potential to be a good movie.See all 3 customer reviews... Rome (TV Series 20052007) - IMDb Created by Bruno Heller William J. MacDonald John Milius.
